In 1997, a group of international airline executives felt the time
had come to provide travelers with a discount airfare in Europe
equivalent to Rail passes. One year later, the EuropeByAir
FlightPass was launched at press conferences in Los Angeles
and at the United Nations building in New York. The concept
was simply to combine the routes flown by airlines in different
countries into a European wide route network offering one
discount airline fare to Europe with simple, standardized conditions.
